The Story, Part 1

The story of Bowslinger began sometime around January 2014. when browsing around for laser cut rubber band guns.

The selection wasn’t that great, most of them were the ratchet type.  Ratchet is a good format for laser cutting (Check out Bandit Guns), but we wanted the classic style – a fast firing, laser cut 6-shooter.  None were to be found.

Looking over the ’49er patent (The now Public-Domain US4949494) gave us some ideas on  escapements, so we built a few different variations of the ’49er.  Someday, we’ll post our dxf cut files for the 49er – please remind us from time to time!

They worked OK, but not great.  The old ’49er escapement is somewhat clunky, and requires a fairly long pull to release a band.  If you try to reduce the pull to get faster firing, the escapement becomes unreliable.

So we set out to redesign the escapement, and make a fast-shooting 6-shot rubber band gun.
